Herman Mold + Tooling is a local, Fairfield, Iowa, company that manufactures aluminum molds used to make plastic products. Backed by 39 years of experience, we combine precision engineering with custom tooling to build specialized extrusion blow molds. The Role
We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Tool Room Assistant / Shop Hand to join our extrusion blow molding (EBM) manufacturing team. In this entry-level role, you will be the backbone of our tool room, split between keeping the shop organized and clean, and performing hands-on mold preparation. This is a fantastic "foot-in-the-door" opportunity for someone mechanically inclined who wants to learn precision mold maintenance and manufacturing from the ground up.
This position is for day shift 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.
Responsibilites:
- Polish and finish mold cavities and components to required specifications
- Drill vents and perform basic machining tasks under the direction of mold makers
- Clean, and prepare mold parts for assembly
- Operate a forklift to move materials, molds, and equipment
- Keep the shop floor, work areas, and equipment clean and organized
- Assist mold makers with assembly, disassembly, and moving molds
- Receive, organize, and stock materials and supplies
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE
- Deliver molds to local customers
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma, GED, or current enrollment in a trade school/machine tool program.
- Experience: 0 to 1 years of experience in a manufacturing shop, warehouse, automotive garage, or similar hands-on environment.
- Key Skills: Steady Hands & High Attention to Detail: Essential for polishing surfaces and drilling vents without damaging expensive production molds.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Comfortable safely using basic power tools, drills, and pneumatic equipment.
- Reliability & Hustle: A strong work ethic with a willingness to handle both heavy-duty cleaning and precision tasks.
- Valid Drivers License: Must be able to drive company truck to deliver and pick up molds from local customers
- Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long shifts, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and respirators during sandblasting.
